In the Beginning

In the beginning...those three little words hold such importance. These three words begin the greatest true story that has ever been told. The story that we are still living. Throughout our lives, we have many beginnings. Some beginnings are thrilling and exciting-graduating from high school or college, getting married, starting a family. Other beginnings are all about the unknown and can be downright scary and intimidating. And yet other beginnings are just that-a beginning that we just don't know what the ending of that story will be. We often begin something new without really knowing how it will all turn out-a new job, a move to a new city, a new relationship. So, I give you my take on a new beginning.
As I was preparing the Kids Kingdom lessons for the month of August, I realized that the stories focused on the beginning of creation. From the creation of the sun and the moon to the formation of animals and people, each week focuses on a different day of creation. For some reason, this time of year struck me as an interesting time to study God's creation. Not that there is a wrong time to discuss any story from the Bible, but I seemed to think that with the ending of summer, beginning of a new school year, and the transition to fall, that the stories would be something different. What should they be? Well, for that I don't really have an answer. Just something different I suppose.
However, as I was preparing the lessons, it struck me-Kids Kingdom is entering into its own new beginning. We have transitioned to a new space with renovated classrooms. Children are all in one area and teachers are working together to share the love of Jesus each week. Of course there are things that come up, as with all new beginnings, but we are embracing the change with positivity and grace. And just like with all new beginnings, I am not exactly sure where this journey will lead us as a ministry.
That is the caution of all new beginnings though. As much as we would like to know how the journey, the relationship, the job will turn out-we just don't know. Yet, what we can do is trust in God. He holds our future and our story and knows the exact path that our journey will take. It isn't always easy to trust in His plan but knowing that He provides the peace and the wisdom along the way is a great reassurance of His love. So, I choose to trust in Him, in His plan, His faithfulness, and His power. He knows exactly where this new beginning will lead us. So, from this exciting new beginning, to the middle, to the continuation of our story, He has it handled. What a comfort.
Oh, and what a great time to study God's creation, the greatest beginning ever told.
To celebrate our new beginning in Kids Kingdom, please join us for an Open House following service on Sunday, August 17.
We look forward to celebrating our new beginning with you.
