Believing is seeing

We live in a time when we really do not believe something unless we see it with our own eyes.  We want the visual proof, video, or recording that something is real or that an event happened.  And even when we have the proof, we are still skeptical.  With AI and scammers, even seeing isn’t always believing.

            My daughter had eye surgery a few weeks ago.  And it made me think about the importance of sight.  As we were helping her into the car to come home, she was relying on me and my husband to guide her and keep her safe because she could not open her eyes and see for herself.  She simply let go of her own fear, pain, and hesitation to fully trust us to keep her safe and not steer her wrong.

            This made me think how often I do not fully let go and trust God to guide me.  I worry, I research, I allow myself to become anxious.  Yet often I fail to fully trust God.  Even though he is always there, always loving and forgiving, even when I do not first seek him.  Yet when I do submit and fully give my life, my worries, my circumstances to God, his refuge is always the perfect answer to whatever I may be facing.

            Believing in God’s plan and following his guidance shows me that he is real and that his promises hold steadfast.  Seeing all of the ways he has held me allows me to truly believe in him.  All I have to do is look around to see the bounty that God has given me.  From the faces of those I love to the beauty of the world he created to the peace I find inside his sanctuary, I see God’s handiwork thousands of times every day.  So, yes, in some ways, seeing is believing.  But believing in God, will open your eyes to a world that is filled with love, comfort, and protection.
