God is Grace

If you are a parent, a grandparent or have any special relationship with a child, you know that they often have their own language. At times, it is a language that as adults we cannot understand, for example, when you ask them repeatedly what they want and the child continues to get increasingly frustrated before one or both of you give up. But sometimes, you know exactly what they mean and it just becomes a part of your everyday vocabulary.

These are a few favorites that we have accumulated over the years at my house.

Coco dots=Polka dots

Head fore=Forehead

Can't wike it=Can't like it (which was only suspiciously used when I was trying to get my kids to eat something healthy)

No danks=No thanks

I am sure that you can also think of a few that your own children have said over the years. Before meals, I encourage my kids to pray a blessing before we eat. It is the same prayer that I said when I was younger, and it is extremely recognizable:

"God is great, God is good, now we thank him for our food. Amen."

When it is my daughter Violet's turn to say the prayer, she turns it into her own kid language and recites "God is GRACE, God is good, Now we thank him for our food. Amen."

Not only does this make me smile, hearing her little voice praying, but it also serves as a great reminder to me that God is Grace. He sustains me with his grace every day. He forgives me, protects me, and loves me, all because of grace.

So many verses in the bible mention grace, that there are almost too many to count.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." -2 Corinthians 12:9

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:16

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. -John 1:14

Grace is one of the greatest gifts God gives to us. We can never do enough to earn his grace. He gives us his grace because of the immense love that he has for us, a love that surpasses all comprehension.

So, when we are running late to school one morning or are trying to hurry through dinner to get to our next activity, I will slow down and savor Violet's prayer. God is good and he is great, but ultimately God is Grace.
