The Language of Children
If you are a parent, grandparent, or have a special relationship with a child, you know they often speak their own language. At times, it can be a language that we, as adults, struggle to understand. For instance, when you repeatedly ask a child what they want, and their frustration grows, it can feel like a puzzle. Yet, there are moments when their words become a delightful part of our everyday vocabulary.
Here are a few favorites that we have gathered over the years at my house:
Coco dots = Polka dots
Head fore = Forehead
Can't wike it = Can't like it (this was often used suspiciously when I tried to get my kids to eat something healthy)
No danks = No thanks
I’m sure you can think of a few unique phrases your own children have created over the years.
The Power of Prayer
Before meals, I encourage my kids to pray a blessing. It’s the same prayer I learned as a child, and it’s quite recognizable:
"God is great, God is good, now we thank him for our food. Amen."
When it’s my daughter Violet’s turn to say the prayer, she transforms it into her own kid language:
"God is GRACE, God is good, now we thank him for our food. Amen."
This not only brings a smile to my face, but it also serves as a beautiful reminder that God is Grace. Every day, He sustains me with His grace. He forgives me, protects me, and loves me—all because of grace.
The Abundance of Grace in Scripture
The Bible is rich with verses that speak of grace. Here are a few that resonate deeply with me:
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." - 2 Corinthians 12:9
"Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." - Hebrews 4:16
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." - John 1:14
Grace is one of the greatest gifts God offers us. We can never do enough to earn His grace. He gives it freely, stemming from the immense love He has for us—a love that surpasses all understanding.
Savoring the Moments
When mornings are hectic, and we’re running late to school, or when dinner feels rushed as we hurry to our next activity, I remind myself to slow down. I take a moment to savor Violet’s prayer. In those precious seconds, I reflect on the truth that God is good, and He is great. But ultimately, God is Grace.
The Transformative Power of Grace
Grace transforms our lives in ways we often overlook. It teaches us patience, kindness, and love. In our busy lives, it’s easy to forget the importance of these virtues. Yet, when we embrace grace, we open our hearts to a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.
Grace in Daily Life
In our daily interactions, grace can manifest in small, meaningful ways. A kind word, a helping hand, or a moment of understanding can change someone’s day. When we extend grace to others, we reflect God’s love in our actions.
Building a Grace-Filled Community
As we gather with family and friends, let’s create an environment filled with grace. Encourage open conversations, share laughter, and support one another through challenges. A community rooted in grace fosters growth and healing.
The Ripple Effect of Grace
When we embody grace, we inspire those around us. Our children learn from our actions, and they, in turn, will pass on the lessons of grace to others. It’s a beautiful cycle that can transform lives, one act of kindness at a time.
Conclusion: A Journey Together
In this journey of faith and family, let us hold onto the truth that God is Grace. As we navigate the ups and downs of life, may we find comfort in His unwavering love. Together, let’s embrace grace, allowing it to guide us in our relationships and our community.
In moments of chaos, remember to pause and reflect. Grace is not just a word; it’s a way of life. Let it fill your heart and flow into every interaction. God is good, God is great, and ultimately, God is Grace.
